Balik kampung
It's been a long time since i last went back to Simee, I lived there till i turned sixteen before moving over to New Pasir Puteh. Simee is a nice place to stay and grow up in. Has a wet market and a few rows of shops. I can still see many old ladies cycling around the place. Just like when i was still living there. I used to cycle around the place too.
This is Kopitiam Sin Lok Yee, where you can get the best porridge. It's the stall with the guy in the blue shirt. Right at the entrance of the kopitiam. Things didnt change much in Simee. Mostly new buildings being erected to replace the old wooden ones. During my childhood, there was this char koay tiau stall right at the corner of the kopitiam and i used to buy supper there almost every night. I just live nearby.
We had fish porridge yesterday. Added some fried pig's intestines to it and of cos, yau char guai. It's been a long time since i ate pig's intestines. Almost forgotten how great it tastes and its crunchiness. Sigh... not something that i will eat for a long time. Though a bowl of chee chap chuk is more appetising, i had fish porridge cos it's better for Malcolm. Too bad he preferred the cookies i brought along.
I saw a man with a bowl of curry when i was taking my toilet inspector to carry out his duty. Gordon loves to check out every toilet wherever we go to, lol. It looked good, so i got hubby to order some and it turned out just the way we liked it. It's the watery kind of curry soup with just a hint of serai. Just great with these fried fu pei and stuffed vegetables.
