Do you people drink coffee at night?

I had dinner at Coffee Bean last night. It's quiet in non-happening Ipoh at night especially during the weekdays. Hubby had Pesto Pasta and i had a Caesar Salad with Salmon. I wasnt too hungry. As for drinks, we settled for Genmaicha Greentea as both of us are not fond of coffee.

Speaking of coffee, i used to drink a few cups of that every single day during my working years. I like it black, no sugar. I stopped drinking coffee a couple of years back. But i still do drink it once in a long while, with Latte being my favourite.

My Mil drinks tons of it everyday and complains of insomnia. Well, i've advised her to stop it but she refuse to listen and says that that's not the cause of her sleepless nights. So, i just leave her to decide how she wants to deal with it.

I'm curious. Caffeine lasts quite a long time in our system once ingested. And if someone drinks it say after dinner at about 8pm, can you still fall asleep effortlessly at about 11pm? For me, i'd be a zombie all night long. Tea's ok with me. I've no trouble sleeping after tea.

So, do you still go out for a cup of coffee or two at night? I've always wondered whether people who hangs out at Coffee Bean or Starbucks at night can sleep after their coffee session. If i cant sleep, i'll just watch drama series online non-stop here. Leave comment with email for password.

when in Uni, I used to go out for supper every night and order a Nescafe Tarik Besar KAU EVERY NIGHT.

I think since then, NEscafe has no effect on me, and now, I can take a cup of it and still sleep within the hour... :D

OF course, it depends on HOW STRONG the coffee is, that is. Nescafe, no kick. gimme something stronger, MAYBE it might keep me awake. For awhile. heh.

I just drank a cup of expresso (more like double shot) at 4pm+ and then went to nap till 7.30 pm. I can drink coffee as bedtime drink.

Coffeeshop produced coffee has no effect on me. No matter how "khow" they claimed it to be.

I once stayed up for slightly over 36 hours straight after downing my own custom made poison; one cup of hot water + 5 tablespoon of Nescafe + 1 tablespoon sugar.

After that I slept for 12 hours straight.

eyeris - Nescafe is so Malaysian standard, hoh. My MIL buys a lot of those. Caffein at night makes me jittery when it's bedtime.

lilian - Ahhh, this is new, amnesia as a side-effect of caffein fix. Me, shhhhh, apart from making me jittery, armpit also perspires.... haih.

arf zen - omg, this is turning into some before bedtime drink for you?

jee - double espresso and still can sleep after that, wahlau

deliriouslybored - 1 pill = 20 cups of coffee. I'd be zombie for a week, hehehe

Coffee has no effect on me. Can drink coffee after dinner and still sleep at night. Even other caffeinated drinks (gas drink or tea) cannot make me stay awake.

Love the coffee shop black black coffee with sugar. Especially when I take it with the Hup Seng Cream Crackers.

Why this type of coffee so dark black compare to those Nescafe or Western brewed?

Does drinking this dark kopitiam kopi makes your intestine black?

yes, coffee does affect me but luckily I am not a coffee drinker. I prefer tea anytime.
King, however, can have a double espresso at 10pm and still sleep like a log!

Tea...tea! I'm a tea man. I drink tea to unwind before hitting the sack.

When I was a student, coffee helps me through the late nights of last minute slogging before exams. hehehe. However, of late, I find that coffee is not so effective as an anti-sleep remedy. Especially nowadays the coffee they serve at the standard kopitiams and even the coffee houses are so diluted, knn. I can't sleep after having coffee at Starbucks and Coffee Bean. They serve more "kaw" coffee, that's why you are paying about 8-10 times more for a shot.

i can drink coffee, Chinese tea, ceylon tea..whatever and still drop dead in 5 mins on the bed. (provided no errr distraction)lol

I know quite a lot of ppl who claimed they can't sleep after drinking chinese tea... I think it's because the person is used to taking less chee ghek stuffs.

for me, I am immune to nicotine, caffeine and sleeping pills. I really build up my resistance over the years hor?? lol

As always, the effect of caffeine differs from one individual to another...

for you... its quite obvious that the effect is sufficient to disrupt your sleep...

for me... when i'm sleepy, nothing keeps me awake... not coffee, not sex... absolutely nothing... only exception is my mum yelling her head off...

I drink a cup of coffee before going to sleep. (If I drink tea I will not fall asleep, call me weird hehe) And I don't go to those chain coffee outlets; no need to support western capitalism. Local brew coffee over here is simply the best; pure and aromatic. :)

not a coffee person, guess a cup of ice blended is alright. am more a green tea person, but will try not to have any before bed.

I have no problem sleeping if I drink tea or coffee at night. Almost everyone at my work place are hard core coffee drinkers. Once in awhile, I'll have a cup of green tea. That's about it.

I can take tea, I can take single shot of expresso.. but not nescafe.. It makes my heart beat very fast, and I get insomnia..

Normally if I'm very tense that day, and have lots of things in my mind.. I'll go for chamomile..

whoisbaby - yes, unfortunately, drinking coffee does leave its devastating evidences for future medical references, lol.

jeremy c - haha, another coincidence. i do get headache after coffee sometimes. Maybe due to the high caffeine content in some mixes like espresso

king's wife - dont we all agree that tea is definitely more soothing to the senses than coffee. i love all kinds of tea; fruit, floral, herbal, chinese. but earl grey and greentea remains my alltime favourite.

cocka doodle - yes, i love a cup of lavender tea before bedtime too. gimme a five *piakkk*

arkane - yes, true enuff that kopitiams coffee is pretty diluted. they just love to add so much sugar and milk to thicken it, yucks. i detest sugar, makes my throat itch. really dont mind an occasional latte w/o sugar at Coffee Bean tho pricy compared to the regular ones.

helen - my resistance to all these all waned over the years liao. i have to choose my tea especially those chinese ones. too liong/siok, and it'll give me gastric. especially now that i'm pregnant, i stick to kuk-poh but would indulge in loong-jeng occasionally.

brian - this i'm curious. y does your mom yells her head off whilst u sleep?

mahagurusia - so, that means u make ur own cuppa at home lerr. any favourites? does ur wife drink coffee with you at night??

greenapple - tes keeps you up too. if i take those kaw chinese tea, i'll stay awake till the wee hours of the morning, lol.

simmie - that's why coffee remains one of the most traded commodity in the market. So many worldwide supporters.

zara's mama - my heartbeat races too after drinking coffee and armpit perspires also, sheeesh. That's y i refrain from drinking coffee. a lady doesnt look good with a stained armpit on a great noon out, hoh. especially when we wear dark colors.
