Sleep apnea
Sometimes, after a heavy beer-drinking session during sleep-over parties, my cousin will have troubled sleep. This happens especially when he's sleeping on his back. I noticed that he sometimes stops breathing multiple times while sleeping and with loud excessive snoring too. I usually wake him up and tell him to sleep on his side to get a better sleep. This condition of his is also known as sleep apnea. I heard that if he doesnt get sleep apnea treatments, it could lead to heart disease.
The characteristics of obstructive sleep apnea are repetitive pauses in breathing while the person is sleeping. The pauses are due to the obstruction or collapse of the upper airway in your throat. Obstructive sleep apnea treatments strive to alleviate this problem. Depending on the severity of the obstructive sleep apnea, this condition can lead to a reduction in your blood oxygen saturation while asleep and your being continual awakened during the night to fulfill your body's oxygen requirements. Your body is actually straining to breathe during these apnea episodes which causes you to wake up tired and even fatigued. Some sufferers even report that they wake up with a headache.
