"Mom, look!! I can launch all my favorite games.... clever or not??!!"
For a 3 yr old who's still reluctant to talk, Gordon has made yet another progress. He has mastered the art of navigating through my pc using the mouse. He knows where to find all the games programs. It's driving me nuts.
I've nothing against letting him play on the pc. But once he's playing, he wont get off the chair. The word "STOP" just doesnt exist in his vocabulary. I've removed all the games programs from the Start Menu. I thought that would at least get him to read his books or watch the tv, but hell... "NO". He'll scream, yell, bang his head on the floor (ouch.... dont ask me why he does that. I really have no idea.) and cry. Waking Malcolm up in the process. If i'm working at the pc, he'll keep pressing the "windows" key or spacebar on the keyboard..... niamahfulat!!!
With no more identifyable games icon to click on, he's now moved on to checking out each and every one of my installed programs. That also i can tolerate. But i'll be damn tulaned if he accidentally uninstalls any of them without me knowing it. And he'll go on opening and opening and opening each and every program to see if it's "playable" or not.
So, now, i have to set up password. Once the screensaver comes on, i'll need to key in the stupid password just to resume my work. Cant even leave my pc unattended for a minute. Gordon will pounce on the mouse lightning-fast. Haih..... i'm so thinking of buying a wireless keyboard and mouse. Do you think that'll work? These things expensive one or not?

I can so relate. I have a law at home. My toddler can launch online games but he is not allowed to go to my blogs. Or else he clicked my ads, die la. Several months back when he can't recognise alphabets, he can recognise the http://www.all the alphabets of the games URL.com stored in my browser. LOL. My niece came by and pengsan to see the speed he search for the right URL amongst the little browser line. Duh. At least we can take pride our kids 'can use the PC'. LOL.
at least he is yr own son.My colik next to me, is so K-Poh, until i got to fix my screensaver password if i'm inactive for 1 min. Everytime wanna resume work gotto type LONG password, cos short password she will know!
u can actually set another login ID to your pc just for yr kid. so each time he wanna use the pc, just login to that ID and let him play. just don't let that ID be the administrator. in this way, yr files won't get deleted.
while u r using, set yr screensaver with password on. set yr idle time shorter so that the moment u leave yr pc, the next few idle seconds, yr pc will launch the screensaver. thus preventing yr kid from messing up.
also must let him learn how long he can use the pc, set the alarm clock then teach him that upon ringing he has to stop.
hope this helps cos it did for me ;-)
hmmm... unplug mouse and keyboard and lock it up somewhere? wireless is cool but it consumes quite a bit of battery life (and have to replace batt all the time, quite the mahfan, but wireless is dang nice lah!).
5xmom - Mine dun even lool at the alphabets. All he wants are the ICONS...... He's been good so far today.... *cross all fingers first*. See what happens next. Duh...... i'm so waiting....
Sasha - Put lah some image with text as a screensaver that says "Get the Fuck Off, you KNNCCB". That shud do the trick, lol.
Masamura - I have a Fujitsu lifebook lying around somewhere. It still runs in Windows 98. Dunno whether can run the games that he's playing now or not. I'll go check it out one day.
babe_kl - tip #1, i'll try that out. Tip #2, did that, but damn mah9fan. Tip #3, dont think it'llwork for him, but will try also. Thx a million for the tips. *hugs*
may - Unplug????? Sei lorr, how many time in an hr must i do that, lol. Wireless that bad meh, i'll think about it longer then.... sigh.....
I use a wireless optical mouse and keyboard set from Logitech. I also have 4 rechargeable AA batteries (rotating for the mouse). I use the computer about 80 hours a week, and I only need to change the mouse battery every month. Had the keyboard (nonrechargeable) in for almost a year, it is still fine.
I'd recommend the wireless, works really well for me. Although I'd suggest you go with Logitech, in the long run it's better than the A4 Brand, although more expensive.
LOL... bet you didnt think you could come up against this PC problem so soon eh? babe_kl's tip is good.. On the Mac, you could actually have different Users... I don't know abt Windows if you can do that too... Oh, go get a Mac.
That kid is a genius!!!!!!!!!
Hmm.. you know you are going to be rich one day don't you??
He's going to be the next Bill Gates!!
Hurry up, get him a new PC so he can train to be one.
Hahaha!! Gordon must've taken after daddy who loves games too, right?
Yeah, its good to put your foot down and set the duration rules. Otherwise, kids get hooked on quickly.
Come come Gordon, let uncle distract you from all those games. We surf pornsites to look at those yummy
nen nens. LOL
A genius in the making alright :D Haven't tried wireless keyboard but the wireless optical mouse needs new batteries often (if it's not a rechargeable one)
he must have been observing and learning lots from his mama. ;)
Hey, you better start moving all your porns from your computer...;-( lol
I'll be glad to help you out. You can pass it over here... lol
I just read on the news...some 3 year old kid (in England, I think) simply click click click on his parent's pc an 'accidently' bought a car on ebay!!! It was a pink Nissan!!! LOL!
