Attitude! Attitude!! Attitude!!!
I just got back. Had dinner at Gourmet Square, Ipoh Garden.
The food was so-so. We had a business guest with us just now. I ordered Spaghetti with Honeyed Chicken for myself to be shared with Gordon. Hubby ordered Fish Head Rice Vermicelli. Our guest preferred something light, so Hubby ordered Char Koay with Egg as a side dish and drinks for all.
My spaghetti arrived first, so i started feeding Gordon. The Char Koay came next. Drinks came right after that. Whilst i fed Gordon, Hubby chatted with our guest. Our guest was seated to my right. Hubby sat on my left with Gordon between us.
The lady that brought Hubby's Fish Head Rice Vermicelli missed our table with the food in hand and had to turn back to locate us. She stopped by my right side and enquired whether did we order it. I looked up and said , "Yes". She was just about to put the bowl down when i told her nicely that the food's not mine and to kindly put it over at Hubby's side on my left.
She gave me a glare and a face so sour that it made me wanted to tell her to TAKE IT BACK. But we had a guest with us and i decided to let her go just THIS time. Still, she had to grudgingly walk over and place it at hubby's side, sour faced and all.
I dont like making a scene in public. Gordon will pick that up and deem it OK. Action speaks louder than words. I hate to argue.
Now, what kind of attitude is this? I'm a paying customer for FARK's sake. Isnt it just correct for her to just walk over and place the food at hubby's side instead of expecting me or our guest to put our utensils down and do her work for her? It's bowl of noodle with hot soup, DNMCH.
I'm not a difficult person to please at all. What's so difficult about placing the right food at the right person's side. Isnt this just plain logic? Whether we choose to dine at 5-star restaurants or hawker centres, it's still the same. One should not simply place food on the table and expect the customers to sort out their own orders. Couldnt she have asked "who" ordered it instead of did "we" order this? That would have made life much easier for her. PLAIN LAZINESS!!
Whether we are that person or of a different profession, attitude tells a lot about your quality of service and in turn, determines your revenue. If i have that kind of attitude, my clients would definitely tell me to go shove it up my ass instead.
And NO, the Rm4/bowl Fish Head Rice Vermicelli DOES NOT TASTE NICE AT ALL. Take my word for it or choose to disappoint yourself. I'm not even going to describe what it tastes like. She should have tried out what the real thing tastes like before setting upshop stall to sell this hard-to-perfect dish.
One customer lost; together with my entire network of friends, family members and clients.
In my books; TOTAL LOSS!!

Haiyo...chill out lar...like the Jerai joker Badruddin said 'Why make mountains out of molehill'...LOL!
OK, seriously, it all comes back to the Malaysian mentality again, regardless of race. About the 'tidak-apa' attitude. Her job scope is to carry the bowl (of shite) from the table of her stall and to the customer's table. Nothing more than that. Period.
"Haiya...now everything price increase liao. You want me to open golden mouth to ask who ordered it har? Pay more lar. I work 'kai sui kam toh' you 'ji san ji sai, yim sam yim sei' har! Pay more lar!"
p.s. Where is the Gourmet Place in Ipoh Gdn btw? Didn't even manage to go Iph Gdn East behind Pizza Hut/East Ocean Restaurant there...
Samm,
Ignore it... they're probably overworked and not paid enough to cover nicety in their employment terms...

helen - me ah, helen, one lucky woman. Nonid to cook one. One less 4-lettered work, hehe. Jeles... hiss, hiss...
why spoil yr day by getting aggravated by such people. there are millions of them out there. i would just smile, even apologise but never patronise that place again. see who die first. They need customers more than customers need them. By boycotting them, we are actually making them have a slow death.
This is very similar to the famous Ipoh "Hor Fun" stall in old town. so act-sy now no one goes there anymore.
Next time I mali home, you can buy me "soft skin crab" for dinner in Mengelembu yah
No offense to Ipoh-reans but I just want to point out some difference between the attitude of the hawkers there and those in Penang.
In general, I find that the hawkers in Ipoh have more stuck up attitudes, especially in those "famous places" like the "ngar choy kai" and the "fu shan dim sum". If you go to the ngar choy kai, be prepared for a long wait and don't you dare to approach the boss at the counter to place your order. You will get a tongue lashing and some sarcastic remarks, telling you to wait for your turn. Forget about consumer rights man. These people DON'T need your money, at least that's what their attitude is telling you. It's as though they are gracing you a divine favor by doing your business.
That's not the case in Penang. Because there are so many eateries here (I think on average 3 hawker's centers per taman; in my taman, there are 5, not inclusive of the 2 major nasi kandar chains), it's the consumer's market. If you "lan si lan yong" to your customers, be prepared to "swat flies" because your customers will just walk next door, literally because there are so many eating places, they are all within walking distance.
Whereas in Ipoh, every where you go for makan, you have to wait and wait for a table, and then wait and wait again for your food. I don't understand why there are perpetually so many people and not enough eating places. Is it because of the population ? or not enough hawkers to cater to the market ? Maybe someone can enlighten me.
I came across this comment last time at a stall in KL: 'Tapau ar? Very long queue. If you can wait u waitlah, (with a larn si larn yong face)'. I am now waiting to see when will this shop close down.
seng kor, despite how much we hate the shops that shows these stinko attitudes to the consumers, don't be surprised that they just will not close down coz there are so many suckers out there willing to pay good money to keep them alive.
i quote another example of a pancake stall. it's supposed to be the most famous one in my area and there are hordes of people every night. i had a bad experience there once. i gave the wrong amount of money to him for 2 pcs of pancake (RM1.00 instead of RM1.40) and got a bashing from him with vile words like "don't know how to count money, don't buy lah", and something along the lines of "trying to cheat him". Couldn't hear the last few phrases properly as i was already walking away. what a sh*t head. get real man, why the fcuk would i want to cheat him of 40 cts ? some people just don't get the concept.
i have been keeping my fingers crossed for the stall to close down since that incident but what do you know. it is still alive and kicking until today.
ipoh mali, seng kor, arkane - like ipoh mali said, they sure wont die one lah, just boycott lah. best strategy. or best revenge, sit at the far end of the shop, order one dish at a time and pay with RM100 note each time, repeat 5 - 6 times, muahahahahah. when they complain, say things like - how to do bzns ah if got not enuf small change? or, no change ah, dont wan lah. classic case of class 1 bitchiness.
