Chinese calligraphy the wrong way
A primary schoolgirl was doing her homework at the coffee-shop i was having breakfast just now. She's doing chinese calligraphy. But there's something wrong with the way she holds the brush. She's holding it like a pen.
Since when does one hold a chinese brush that way? No wonder her writing's like shite. All flat and couldnt fit into the square boxes on the page. I've never attended calligraphy classes before but my nieces all do. And they never hold it like that. I've tried writing with one held the right way and it's quite fun actually. Though my writing sucks and rather tiring at first.
I know it's not easy. But the girl just now should have at least tried to hold her brush correctly even though no one's supervising her. I'm sure her school teacher never taught her that. She can definitely tell from the writing whether it's being done correctly or not.
The end result may be the same whereby she finishes her homework and hands it up for marking. But, there's no pride in it whatsoever. With just a little bit more effort from the schoolgirl, i'm sure her homework could have turned out much better, which i doubt also. The table is way too high and cluttered for her to write on properly. Why is she doing it at the coffee-shop in the first place when she could've done it at home?
Oh, how i itched to correct her just now. But then again, why bother when her own parents couldnt care less. I'm sure if she practises more at it the correct way, she can write better than what i saw just now.

I wonder if all these boils down to a seemingly higher teacher to student ratio where the teacher will not be able to give more personalise attention to each kid. To meet demand, I know of schools which have like 8 classes per standard and 55 per class. not very condusive. the other reason being the student mentality where it is more important to be able to pass up their homework rather than late but provide better quality ones.
so u in better mood today?
yup, thx. i'll turn ugly if i sulk for too long.
Damn, it's been YEARS since I tried writing Chinese Calligraphy myself. I may hold it the correct way and all, but my writing still sucked. No wonder I failed my PMR chinese paper.
Eyeris - maybe you can buy some stuff back and try it as a hobby now. without the exam pressure, perhaps they'll turn out all right. can use as wall hangings also, hehe.
